My Garden May 14th

Large garden plot in the daytime. It's getting there. Maybe we'll see green soon.
Transplanted 5 tomato plants today. 9 to go that are still getting hardened off so they don't die in the 100 degree heat. Supposed to be in the 80's next week and I think they will have a better chance then. It's supposed to be 103 tomorrow. Yikes! Yes, my little seedlings. I had a hard time with my tomato seedlings. Tried putting them in a cold frame after 4 weeks and they were stunted and sad. Didn't have room anywhere else so there you go. Next year I will do all shelves and lights in the garage and they will be big like last year. :-) I can hope can't I? Maybe we can get a greenhouse for next year. I can dream can't I?
One of my tomato rows. I dug 1.5 foot holes and added egg shell for calcium and some pelleted fish emulsion then put the dirt back. James got a little excited with the egg shell in the first hole.

I love that your little one helps! Your garden is looking really good, can't wait to see it in full bloom.

Your smart to wait last year I made the mistake of planting before a heat wave and I almost killed half my plants. Good luck with transplanting and to cooler weather.

wow. you sound just like nic and vice / versa = ) it must be a left handers thing. Its looking good- farther than we are by now. James is awesome and totally loves the whole farm thing so I think its great. Plus you're happy and it's logical and long term low cost food as long as you can help it battle the elements sometimes. We just want to know were gonna be able to stay here for AWHILE before we put in our garden. But it is perfect time, maybe i'll start one on the side somewhere.....ah ideas. anyway- looks great bigred!

I would go to a nursery (not home depot type.lol) and see if they have any tomato seedlings left. Get an heirloom if they have it and plant some basil. A marigold plant and maybe a nasturtium to keep the bugs away too. Hey if your going to be there for the summer you might as well do something. Oh, and plant some lettuce for salads since you can plant that all year long, you might as well. ;-)
